The Stroop Test
Can You Beat Your Brain's Automatic Pilot?

The Stroop Task measures your inhibitory control and selective attention. You'll see color words displayed in colored ink, and your job is to identify the ink color, not read the word.

How It Works:

  • A color word will appear on screen in colored ink
  • Press the key corresponding to the ink color:
    R = RedG = GreenB = Blue
  • Ignore what the word says—focus only on the color!
  • Respond as quickly and accurately as possible

Example:

If you see:

RED

Press B for BLUE (the ink color), not R for red (the word)!

Scientific Background: Based on the classic 1935 J.R. Stroop study, this test measures the conflict between automatic reading and controlled color-naming. Your “interference score” shows how well you can suppress automatic responses.
